McFarlane Toys is an American action figure manufacturer founded in 1994 by Todd McFarlane, author of Spawn.
These figures are not toys for children, but are aimed at teenagers and adults, and are collected by fans.
Initially, the figurines were based on characters from the Spawn comic strip, with 30 series devoted to these characters. Later, action figures were produced based on other series and films for which the rights were purchased, such as Alien, Alien vs. Predator, Napoleon Dynamite, Tim Burton's Funeral, Wallace and Gromit, Shrek, The Simpsons and Lost.
The Movies Maniacs series features numerous characters from the world of fantasy cinema, such as Chucky, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc.
In-house figurines also include the McFarlane's Monsters (fantasy monsters), McFarlane's Military (U.S. military) and McFarlane's Dragons (dragons) series.
A series on pop/rock music characters such as Mötley Crüe, Slash, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bon Jovi and Kiss.
Also a series of rock album covers or movie posters reproduced in 3D: Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Metallica, Jimi Hendrix and Jaws, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and Rocky Horror Picture Show.
McFarlane Toys has also produced figurines from the world of video games, starting in 1999 with a series of Metal Gear Solid figurines and continuing in 2001 with a series of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty figurines. Today, the company owns several licenses, including Halo 3, Halo Wars, Guitar Heroes and Call of Duty.
Last but not least McFarlane Toys is also a giant in US sports figurines, with licenses for all five major American sports leagues. These figurines depict athletes in real-life situations, complete with official equipment and jerseys. (Except for the very first series, when McFarlane did not yet have the rights.) So we have figurines from the NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA and Nascar leagues, the latter only available in the USA.
